busy wee me

Boy, I don't really even know where to begin with today. Did lots of things. Doctors appointment, cleaning at the gym (for the last time due to time constraints), visited mum, visited friend, rearranged house to fit in dining set we were given (will be sanding and vanishing), scrubbed our filthy shower, planted some strawberry plants (and all that that entails). So as I said busy, BUSY day. I'm absolutely stuffed now.

While I was at work over the weekend, my lovely, gorgeous, fantastically amazing boyfriend popped a vege garden in for us. With broccoflower, broccoli, lettuce, cucumber etc. Oh and tomatoes, which I don't eat. But not only did he do this, he had to clear the bush/shrub/killer weeds before he could even start planting. Absolutely massive effort on his behalf, and his parents who came round to help as well :)

Eating is still going excellent, oh and I while I was at the doctors today I was weighed and it read that I was 71.5, so of course I had to go over to the boyfriends parents (where the scales are on which I weigh myself at the moment) and I was only 71 on those scales YAY! Although it's not officially weigh day if I'm able to keep the weight off until friday, I will have lost 5kg already! I truly cannot believe, it doesn't feel real. I thought that it would take me far longer than this.

Anyway I've decided that I will no longer be writing my list of food that I've eaten for the day on here anymore, it takes far too long and draws my focus away from the feelings I get from eating healthy. And makes for an absolutely boring blog to read :) So that's it. No more food lists. I will of course be continuing on with writing down what I eat in my notebook though.

Well that's all that I can be bothered typing for now. Hope everyone had a great weekend. I'm certainly looking forward to just going to tec tomorrow. Two days of work, and one day of running around like a headless chook has absolutely worn me out!

Ciao

I love my family!

Went to my mum's for dinner last night, and my three step action plan from yesterday was put into action but it wasn't really needed. My poppa is such a sweetheart, because he knew I was on weight watchers he cooked everything with the least amount of fat and did it all really healthy. And dessert was fruit salad with icecream. I ended up at the end of the day with 1 point saved. So happy :) It's back to normal eating today. I don't have to cut back points during the day anymore which is sweet :) We're having hamburgers for dinner tonight yumm.

Anyway this was just a quick catch up, have work. So I have to start getting ready.

Eaten
B - 2 weetbix, splenda, 1/2 cup of skim milk
S - pear
L - pasta packet, & carrot
S - Sa.Ka.Ta crackers and 1 kiwifruit
D - roast beef (3 small slices), peas, mashed potato, & kumara
P - 1 scoop icecream, and fruit salad

Feeling: Happy to be back to somewhat freer eating.
Wanting: To get through work today without stressing.
Looking forward to: Cleaning the house tomorrow (not!)

Still flyin high...

I'm still absolutely stoked about my loss yesterday (3.5 kg! yehaw!), but I guess it's time to get back onto concentrating on the food and exercise. I ate good yesterday except that I have this nagging feeling that I'm not completely happy with what I'm eating. I think this may be due in part to the fact that last night I had quite a high point dinner, so had to skim points from elsewhere. And tonight the boyfriend and I will be having dinner at my mum's place. It's a half celebration dinner of duncan's/and poppa(grandads) wifes birthday.....hope that made sense. So I'm having to skim points today as well. I don't like it this feeling that I'm depriving myself. It should be better tonight when I get to eat that yummy home roast, but still. I've been thinking about this upcoming meal all week to. In the past I've always treated these occasions as a complete binge. I don't really see the need to do this anymore....SO I've come up with a plan of attack.

1. I'm giving my mum a list of proportions of how much of the food I can eat (previously counted of course) and she's just gonna serve it up for me. So that I don't have fight the urge to pile my plate when standing in front of it all serving my own up.
2. I'm going to eat s...l...o...w...l....y so that my brain gets plenty of time to get the message that I'm full. A second helping has often aided in my binge free-fall.
3. Finally I won't be having dessert, because the meal itself will be finishing up my points for the day. So instead, to satisfy my sweet tooth I shall be taking along some sprite zero (mmmm, love that stuff).

Anyway I have to finish up, gotta get off to work. Oh guess what? I realised something yesterday. I think all this water that I've been drinking has been seriously helping with the cellulite in my legs. It's dramatically reduced. In just a week and a half of drinking 2 litres of water everyday. I'm amazed.

Eaten
B - 2 weetbix, splenda, 1/2 cup skim milk
S - 1 kiwifruit
L - pasta snack pack
S - stewed rhubarb with splenda, pear
D - lasagna, steamed cauliflower and broccoli
S - kavli crackers, and 2 kiwifruit
Total 19.25
Exercise bonus = 2
Saved = 2.75

Steps - I've stopped wearing this at the moment, as the one I have I think may be half broken, and it's depressing me to look down and see that I've done only 600 steps when it feels like almost 2000.

Feeling: A little anxious about tonight.
Wanting: To get this working weekend over and done.
Looking forward to: A home cooked meal.

28 October 2005

HOLY CRAP!

Ok so I went into the gym this morning. Weigh day....DUM DUM DUM! You wana know what I lost? 3 AND HALF FREAKIN KILOS!!! I could not believe my eyes! I'm so freakin proud of myself. It's so encouraging to know that working hard and eating right actually works! Taking into account that I took my weight from 2 weeks ago (meaning I could have lost weight before I even started eating right) it's still a pretty amazing result! I know it's not water weight either because I've been drinking MORE than I normally do. I'm all motivated for this next week. I totally understand that it's highly unlikely that the results next week will be anywhere near as good, but 69kg seems like such a more attainable goal now :) I am quite seriously bouncing around the house at the moment.

Went grocery shopping after the weigh in, and had a huge grin on my face the entire time. I bought nice healthy things and I'm trying some new stuff too. Variety is the spice of life. And for me I know that if I don't vary what I eat I get bored and quit. I won't bother putting in what I ate yesterday due to the fact that I can't be bothered. But I did save 4 points yesterday so thats good. I drank all of my water too.

I was this excited yesterday too. I finally got my nursing application form completed (I was waiting on a reference from my biology tutor). Now I just have to sit and weight for an interview and hope I get in. I think I will though because that science test I sat last week I aced! 100% AGAIN! That's two scores of 100%. And that was what was on my reference. The nursing tutors would be silly not to take me :)

Oh and I think my cheepo pedometer may be broked because I had a super active day yesterday and I only did like 3000 steps. And I know thats not just perception because I'm starting to get an idea of what 3000 steps is. I took it on a run and I think I've half broken it or something. I'll keep wearing it though and see.

Have a great day everybody. I'm pretty sure I will. Ciao

A long day

Nearly every third girl that I see in town when I'm at Tec (it's situated in the middle of town) is wearing either a micro mini, or those short shorts that are in at the moment. I never knew we had so many girls in hamilton that had nice legs! I didn't know that it was so rare for someone to have icky legs....like me :( What I would love the most out of this weightloss journey would be to feel confident enough, and to look good in a mini skirt/short shorts. My legs are the chunkiest part of me so I think it's going to involve a lot of exercise (not just losing the weight) to get them toned, and just as I was deciding this a miracle happened.

When I was picking the boyfriend up from work the first thing he said to me was that he wanted to go for a run. I was a little taken aback at first but the more I thought about it the more I grew keen on the idea. Me and him getting fit together, running together. He wants to get fit for rugby season (about 3 or 4 months away) and I want to get fit to have really nice legs.

So thats what we did, went for a run. It was easier than I thought it would be. I certainly had the energy for it, but I was huffing and puffing pretty quickly; mind you so was he. So we started the nine week running program, and by christmas we should be running 30 minutes non-stop (or 5 km). I think it will be good motivation for both of us to be doing it. And besides I want to set a good example for our kids when they come along, to eat healthy and exercise regularly so this is a great start. Getting ourselves healthy and fit.

I drank my 3 600ml bottles today and ate reasonably well. At the bottom of my daily intake chart I've got little pictures of the food portions I should be eating (1 meat, 2 dairy, 3 fruit, 4 vege, & 5 starch/bread) and this is a really good indicator for on whether I'm eating healthily. Today I only managed 1 piece of fruit and 2 pieces of veges. So mental note for tomorrow, more fruit and veges!

My steps are a bit disappointing today. I'm now choosing to take the stairs, instead of the elevator, and I'm choosing to walk around the classroom a lot more and things like that. And to walk during my lunch time around the stores instead of sitting in one place. And I had that walk/run and I still only made it to 7748. :( I'm disappointed. But it's still my first real attempt at 10,000 steps so I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Eaten
B - 2 weetbix, 1/2 cup skim milk, splenda
S - 1 line of Sa.Ka.Ta
L - pita pizza, carrot
S - tandem fruit bar
D - piece of steak, large potato, low fat margarine, and beetroot
P - 1 kiwifruit, 1/4 cup of muesli & skim milk
Total = 19.75
Exercise bonus = 2
Saved = 2.25

Steps - 7748

Feeling: disappointed with my steps, but ok with my food
Wanting: to do more steps tomorrow
Looking forward to: weigh day, I've worked really hard!

boing! boing! boing!

Yesterday was a great day, yet again. I'm not too sure where this wave of good feelings is coming from. I feel in control of my life for the first time in a REALLY long time. I don't feel like my body (and weight) are controlling me. It feels fantastic. I have so much energy!

Ooooo strawberries are in season again. Atleast they're only worth 1 pt per punnet, because boy oh boy. Yesterday while waiting in the car for the boyfriend, (picking him up from work) I managed to eat a whole punnet, then after dinner last night, I did the same. Only two points I know but I don't think it's healthy for me to be eating THAT much fructose (fruit sugar) in one day. Atleast it wasn't fat though so thats the good thing. Talking about sugar, I keep reading in other weight watchers blogs that they have sugar points for the week too, I just borrowed some of program info from a friend, so I don't know anything about sugar points. If someone does know could you please leave me a note to fill me in? Cheers.

I was a having a little bit of dilemma yesterday, I started thinking about weigh day and I'm not too sure how to go about it. I don't have good enough scales at home. The options are
a) go to the gym (even though I'm quitting soon and ask them if I can come in once a week to use their scales). The only problem there is when I only have little losses like 200g or something, those scales won't be good enough to show that.
b) use the scales at the boyfriends mums place (she's the one who did weight watchers and lost heaps of weight on it, and inspired me to try it) but I'd have the same small loss problem.
c) use the big scales that are in the middle of town, I'm pretty sure they'll be accurate, but I'm not sure that they measure in 100g increments either. So I'll have a look at those. I think I may have to use those for now (however daunting it may be to weigh myself in the middle of town!)

What I do know is that the 100g increment scales that they sell at my work I can get for $60 with my staff discount. So eventually I'd love to get a pair of those. That would be the best thing, but for the next few weeks, weighing in the middle of town it will have to be.

Drank my 3 x 600ml bottles.

Eaten
B - 2 weetbix, 1/2 cup skim milk, splenda
S - 1 line Sa.Ka.Ta rice chips, & 2 kiwifruit
L - pasta packet
S - 1 line of Sa.Ka.Ta rice chips, & punnet of strawberries
D - oriental beef & 1 cup of rice
P - punnet of strawberries
Total = 19.25
Exercise Bonus = 2 (1/2 hr walk)
Saved = 2.75

Steps - 7251 (not as much as I'd hoped but thats okay, it was a busy day walking too)

Feeling: Like a bit of a pig after those 2 punnets of strawberries yesterday.
Wanting: To try to get to 10,000 steps today.
Looking forward to: Buying my own scales.

25 October 2005

and the week begins...

well I've managed to track really well during the weekend and ended up under 20 points every day. Even managing to save quite a few points. I feel a bit bummed that I binged last night on a crunchie bar and glass of wine, but I guess I could see it as a treat right? I stayed under my points though. Went for another walk last night after dinner (my new goal, to walk for half an hour after dinner each night), it was really nice. I was wearing jandals though so now I have blisters on my feet :( and I'm not so sure I love that beautiful sun anymore...got killer sunburn across my shoulders and back. Ouchies! But I'm entirely to blame for that. Mental note, buy sunscreen. So today I'm all covered up. I am NOT getting burnt again.

Oh yay! I also got my pedometer in the mail the other day and forgot to put it in here yesterday, I'm gonna go back and adjust a post and put my steps in for that day. 10,000 steps isn't really as hard as what it seems. On a normal day where I go to tec and for my half hour walk after dinner I think I'll probably get to 10,000. Maybe...

Anywho, talking about tec I gotta bounce. Busy wee bee I am :)
I managed my 3 600ml bottles again yay! Summer weather makes it so damn easy!

Eaten
B - cup of tea (1/4 cup of milk)
- 2 kiwifruit
- 1/4 tub ww yoghurt
L - 1/4 cup of muesli & 1/2 cup of skim milk (i know! not very healthy)
D - health plus wedges, salad, piece of fresh snapper (thanks to the boyfriends fishing saturday)
P - crunchie bar (50g)
- glass of white wine
Total = 18.75
Exercise Bonus = 2
Saved = 3.25

Steps - 4239 (was sunbathing most of the day, hehe)

Feeling: a little sore, but content
Wanting: to get to tec on time
Looking forward to: Sun again today :)

24 October 2005

Oh what a beautiful morning!

Well this will just be a quick update on yesterday because the sun outside is absolutely beaming! And my pasty white legs from winter need 'summerising'. Hehehe.

I'm really proud of myself because even though I went to a barbeque with friends I managed to eat healthily (somewhat) and stay within my points for the day. Without depriving myself of some really yummy food! I also went for a good long 1 hour walk with the boyfriends mum, and my best friend (his younger sister). Confusing I know! The walk went great though! Spent half of the time power walking, the other half recovering! I'm fitter than what I thought (having missed the gym for about 3 weeks now). I'm feeling so good about this healthy eating. I managed all of my water yesterday too! I think it's making a big difference to this new 'glow' that I can see on my face. Perhaps thats just the beautiful sunshine though :) That same sun has burnt the boyfriends skin to crisp though. He spent a few hours out on the boat yesterday fishing. Poor wee thing.

I just want to say that I feel absolutely AMAZING! I can't wait until weigh day on friday!
Now I'm off to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. Have a great day y'all!

Eaten
B - 2 weetbix, splenda, & 1/2 cup of skim milk
L - pasta packet
S - cup of tea, 2 equal tablets, 1/4 cup of milk, 2 kiwifruit, 1 line of Sa.Ka.Ta rice crackers
D - steak, cooked potato, 2 pieces of toast bread, lettuce & tomato sauce
Total = 18
Exercise Bonus = 4
Saved = 6

Steps - 9631

Feeling: proud and excited by my progress
Wanting: to keep this amazing feeling!
Looking forward to: weigh day

22 October 2005

Day two

Not an exciting heading, but it shall have to do, because right now I can't be arsed thinking of anything more intelligent. hehe
Well today's been a great day, doing jack all. :) The boyfriend and I felt like lounging around, and so thats exactly what we did. Got out a couple playstation games, and have been playing them almost all day. Hehe. Self-indulgence don't cha love it? Especially when its not the food kind.

Talking about food, today was a better day than yesterday. I didn't think it possible. I ate really healthy, ate all the necessary servings of food I needed to (1 meat, 2 dairy, 3 fruit, 4 veges, & 6 bread/cereal), and drank my 3 x 600ml bottles of water again. I've been running to and from the toilet all day though (hopefully I'll get used to this). And right now I'm sitting down enjoying my 1/2 cup of cereal. I must admit I was somewhat disappointed with the serving size (it's usually more like a cup and half!) but I'm enjoying it, rather than just shoving it down my gob. For dinner I cooked the chicken in the george foreman grill (to brown, then popped in the microwave to finish) and I could not believe the amount of fat that came off of it! Approx 2 teaspoons! I was rather disgusted actually! I can see the grill making a huge difference to my eating healthier :) I still havn't done any exercise, but I'm hoping for a long walk with a friend tomorrow. So we'll see what happens.

I had this idea that when on weight watchers, with such a drastic reduction in the amount of food I was eating I'd be hungry all the time but I'm finding its almost the opposite. I'm only ever hungry just before dinner now. Whereas in the past it's almost before every meal that I was hungry. Although when I look at all the food written down it looks like a hell of a lot of food!

Eaten
B - 2 crumpets & ww jam
S - apple
L - one toasted sandwich (2 pieces toast bread, 1/4 can spaghetti, edam cheese, & onion)
S - carrot sticks & salsa, 2 kiwifruit
D - chicken drumstick (with skin), rice (1 cup cooked) 1/2 cup of peas.
P - toasted muesli & skim milk
Total = 18 & 1/2
Saved = 1 & 1/2

Feeling: happy to be eating muesli, without feeling guilty
Wanting: to keep this up because it feels SO good, and so easy
Looking forward to: my weigh in next friday :)

The morning after, the day before...

Just a quick note before I begin my ramblings, I'm doing the weight watchers thing from home due to the fact that I'm a student and have about 3 cents to my name (if I'm lucky) :)
Well my first day has been and gone. And it went great! I did REALLY well by my standards. I sat down and worked out some meals, how many points I should try to stick to for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and that sort of thing. I then went grocery shopping, and came home with 2 plastic bags worth of fruit and vege alone. Aren't I good girl? I went a bit over budget this week :( But I think that is only due to the fact that I had to buy ww jam, and splenda ($7!!!) and some healthier meat. Like premium mince, and chicken sausages. I had fun though, walking through the store and pulling out the little slide card thing and working out how much things were worth.
The biggest high of the shopping trip? Well I discovered that my favourite muesli isn't so 'evil' after all. 3 points for the bowel, and with 1/2 a cup of skim milk it's only 3 & 3/4 points. YAY! Mind you I expect that the recommended 50g serving is a lot smaller than my normal servings. As I don't have scales I can't really tell how much it is either. Anyone have a tip on how to guesstimate the right amount? And my pasta packets are only 4 points each (my alotted points for lunches). I also managed to drink 3 600ml bottles of water, which is enormous for me! I put a squirt of lemon in it, which made it go down easier. It's not quite the recommended 2L a day but it will have to do for now.
I didn't get any exercise in though. It was really wet and damp and miserable here in hammy :(
I feel so proud that I had such a good first day. OOOO AND I got to have half a crunchie bar for pudding (since I was craving chocolate due to having my period) and I still saved a 1/4 of a point for the day hehe.

Eaten
B - 2 weetbix and splenda
S - 2 kiwifruit
L - pasta packet
S - tandem fruit bar
D - one burger, with lean mince paddy, carrot, bbq sauce, lettuce and cheese. (yummy)
P - 1/2 crunchie bar
Total = 19 & 3/4
Saved = 1/4

Feeling: proud and happy!
Wanting: to do as good today as I did yesterday, if not better!
Looking forward to: eating my muesli for breakfast once I figure out how much 50g is.

20 October 2005

here it goes...again

Well I'm finally back with a new background, and a new approach to my weight loss. I'm giving weight watchers a go this time. I've tried it in the past for a short amount of time, but was never really all that commited. So I've decided to give this a go. I've also bought a new pedometer off of on of the online trading sites so that should arrive over the next day or so hopefully. I looking forward to seeing how many steps I do in most days. But anyway thats what I'm up to now. What have I been up to? And why have I been gone so long? WELL... been studying hard for my upcoming all important reference based biology exam. Which I sat this morning. I think I did almost as well as my first test (the one I got 100%) in. It felt right. So I'm happy :) And last weekend it was my mans 21st birthday. Boy was that hectic! But great. All the presents he got in a way benefit me. Hehe. Like the barbecue, and the george foreman grill (it'll be GREAT for my diet) . He also got an electric shaver so he doesn't look so scraggly anymore, mind you that was somewhat cute.
When everything is put into words like that it doesn't seem like I've been up to much but it has definitly felt like a lot!
Back to the health side of things, as I said going to try weight watchers, and counting steps. Each day I'm hoping to jump on here and write one good thing about my day (health related or otherwise) and put in my steps for that day. So yeah. I think that might be about it. Shall be talk again soon.

17 October 2005

M.I.A

sorry about being gone for sooooo long guys. Had the boyfriends 21st birthday this past weekend, been organising that, had another relative staying for a while, had tec, and I've got a huge exam coming up that I have been studying hard for. So I've been a little busy beaver. And today's not any different. I will be getting back to this thing within the next few days so please do come back :) At which time I will give you an update on the trials and tribulations of this busy little beaver. Till then...*smile* :)
